Week beginning February 21st - Emma is leaving

Week beginning February 21st

So this week we say goodbye to one of our best loved staff members, Emma, who is off on maternity leave as her baby is due on March 16th. The fact that the baby is due on the day of the UK Barista Championships is not a coincidence at all, surely!!

Emma has been an absolute superstar for Kaffeine, her knowledge and passion for coffee is incredible and her professionalism and commitment to the business is very much appreciated.

We wish her and partner Ian all the very best over the next few weeks and indeed for the years to come as they bring what will surely be a beautiful baby into the world.

Emma, we will miss you.

Week beginning February 14th - Valentines Friands

Week beginning February 14th - Valentines week

Love is in the air, everywhere you look around
Love is in the air, every sight and every sound......

Monday, as you all know, is Valentines day. And while we won't be getting to cheesy and handing out red carnations or roses to every female (we used to do that in a restaurant I worked in), we will be smashing out the latte art hearts on your coffees all week and Chef Jared has also gone one step further again and created raspberry friands.

For those who are unsure, a friand is basically a little cake, made with ground almonds instead of flour, and Jareds recipe makes wonderfully moist, sweet cakes that are to die for. Topped with pink raspberry icing and an actual raspberry on top, these will be an amazing litle way to impress someone in your office if you feel so inclined.

So get in quick on Monday and get a friand for a special someone in your life. They will not be disappointed.

Week beginning February 7th - What a week it was

So there are lots of stories about this week just gone. Some good, some not so good. Here is a brief overview.

Queensland Flood Appeal
In the Australia day/week, the staff tip jar was used to collect donations to the Flood Appeal, plus on the Australia day Wednesday, we committed 50 pence of every coffee sold to the Flood Appeal as well. On this day we sold over 500 coffees and in the week overall we raised over £540. Brilliant. Then of course, Queensland had a category 5 cyclone hit them up north. Queensland, flooded one day, battered the next. A big thank you to all who supported the cause, it is much appreciated.

Coffee Aroma and Tasting Wheel posters
One for the coffee geeks really, we are a bit excited this week to have delivery of the four Art of Aroma Perception in Coffee Posters and the Coffee tasters Flavour Wheel poster, direct from the SCAA in America. They are downstairs on the wall, so if you are interested in coffee flavours and aromas, feel free to come in and have a look at them.

We was robbed
Yes it is true, someone broke in on Tuesday night and stole a small safe that keeps our overnight float in it, ready to start the next day. They took nothing else and the only damage done was to the door. Considering the past month in Queensland, we got off lightly really, plus, they did not steal any coffee or hurt Nessie the Synesso. We also get a new, stronger door and are insured for all the cash.

New neighbours
We are very happy that we have new 'across the road' neighbours. The owners of the Garrison pub and the Village East restaurant in Bermondsey are coming to Fitzrovia, with impressive plans for an upmarket Brasserie style restaurant and bar. Building work is well underway and it is exciting to see all that is happening. We look forward to seeing what they do and also bringing a new dimension to the area.

After all that, I think it is time for some lovely food and coffee, or a rest, see you soon.
